Mold Services – Inspection & Remediation

Why Would I Need a Mold Inspection or Mold Remediation?

Just because you don’t see mold, doesn’t mean that it isn’t present in your home. The only way to know for a fact whether your home or business has mold or mildew growing inside your foundation, walls, joints or duct work is to have a Piedmont Metro mold inspector test your property.

  • If you have an allergic reaction such as a runny nose, sneezing, or itchy eyes associated with being in a certain room or building.
  • To verify that sources of moisture have been successfully stopped and that no residual mold growth has been left after a known water and mold problem has been fixed.
  • To confirm that there is not an existing moisture or mold problem associated with a new building or home that you plan to rent or purchase.
  • If a specific water problem resulted in mold growth in a specific area, that doesn’t necessarily mean you need a mold inspection. For example, if a roof leak has resulted in moldy ceiling tiles, then simply fixing the roof leak and replacing the ceiling tiles may be all that is necessary.

Black mold was growing in most buildings that flooded.

At Piedmont Metro we take the health of you, your family and your business seriously, and with the potential health risks mold and mildew pose we want to remove this potential risk safely, completely and cost effectively.

First, Piedmont Metro will perform a complete visual inspection of your property; paying special attention to places prone to mold and mildew growth. Mold, mildew and other fungi are part of the natural environment.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), all molds have the potential to cause serious health effects. Molds, mildews and fungi can produce allergens that can trigger allergic reactions or even asthma attacks in people allergic to mold. Others are known to produce potent toxins and/or irritants. Stachybotrys (black mold), Aspergillus, and Penicillium are three of the most dangerous and commonly found indoor toxic molds.

Mold can even grow inside your lungs! If it is ingested, both humans as well as animals can get seriously ill. This is why prompt attention and mold remediation is crucial. We look for signs of moisture and other causes for mold and mildew growth.

Inspection for Mold and Mildew

A visual inspection of the affected area will be conducted by a Piedmont Metro mold removal technician, to discover the extent of the mold problem and document the type of mold-damaged materials. If necessary, samples will be pulled from the site and sent to a laboratory to determine the type of mold, health risks and how to safely and completely remove it.

The use of specialized equipment may be necessary to inspect and take air samples in duct work or within walls of your home or office. A thorough analysis will be conducted to detect moisture in building materials such as foundation, joints and structural framing. Surface, bulk sampling, and exposure may be needed to collect and identify specific fungal contaminants and to establish the appropriate remediation protocol.

Containment and Safe Remediation

If an active leak is present, the original source of the water damage must be located and stopped so the remediation process can begin.

In order to establish a plan for remediation, many variables are taken into consideration. Here are just a few:

  • Is the mold enclosed or in an open place where humans may contact it?mold2222
  • Is there any odor and/or spore colonies visible?
  • What is the size and make-up of the affected area?
  • Is there anyone in the home that is pregnant, or has allergies and/or asthma?
  • What condition 1, 2, or 3 is the affected and surrounding area (some testing may be necessary)?
  • Is there a moisture or food source that resulted in mold growth?

For mold remediation, advanced mold cleaning technologies are used to safely clean-up and restore materials and structures. All structural surface microfungi as well as airborne mold will be cleaned, disinfected and eliminated.

We use HEPA vacuums and chemical treatments to fully rid the area of spores. Our technicians will be fully suited in haz-mat gear and regulation breathing apparatus. The containment area is kept under constant negative pressure, minimizing the exposure of the mold remediation technicians, building occupants, and contents to mold spores. When the mold removal is completed, a certified Industrial Hygienist will perform a clearance test to let us know the project has passed and the area is safe.
